Hoody's House & Ginny's Journey

(and what happens when you buy a cheap camera)

Hoody is a bluish hooded rat (hence the really exotic name) that was born around February 9, 2000.

The camera used to take these stunning photos of Hoody is a digital camera I bought merely because it was purple and lime green with a rodent printed on it. It cost $30 and works most of the time.

This is Hoody's house. Of course, she shares it with Lucy and Ginny, but at the time this picture was taken, she didn't know that yet...
My friend Virginia (who took the good pictures of Ginny on this page) found Ginny abandoned in a field in Ontario with 100 other rats. I was lured in with pictures such as this one... Ginny strengthening her leg muscles for the long journey ahead

...and soon Ginny was on her way to Pennsylvania.

We think she is an agouti hooded rex (she has a lot of bad hair days).

We don't know how old she is or why she was left in a field, but we're very glad to have her here!

Ginny's introduction to Hoody and Lucy went fairly well.

This is my fourth and final camera-- the girls approve of it, thankfully.

You came such a long way to be with us, only to leave us way too soon. Thank you for the time you spent with us-- we love you.

Quite possibly the friendliest rat ever -- loved and loved by everyone and every rat, and especially by those of us she left behind. We sang "Happy Birthday" to her every day, as it was her favorite song, and we'll miss singing it....
