Most rats don't ever need bathing (they sometimes need spot cleaned with a damp washcloth) and they can get pretty upset about being dunked in water. There's information on how to bathe a rat here: <https://www.rmca.org/Articles/qna6_96.htm> (last question on the page) that should help. I also recommend wearing *long* sleeves.
